Moving Beyond Pockets:  Intentionally Creating Community

Intentionally Creating Community

This project kicked off phase one of the 'Space Project'.

Centred around art and culture, the first phase aimed to create a space for the development of a stronger community network that allows individuals to express their stories and experiences, including those of anti-black racism.

From June 2021 to March 2022,  a series of events were curated to listen, discuss, and support people's unique experiences of Blackness within Kelowna, by introducing safe spaces for the Black community to unpack shared experiences and facilitate resolutions via knowledge sharing. Guided by the philosophy of Ubuntu, the events also created space for intercultural exchange.
